My little idea has been gaining some steam in the national media. My article created quite a bit of discussion over at Bleacher Report. And now, the national media is picking up on the idea.
Of course, I'm not claiming that I'm the first one ever to consider this idea, and anyone that is familiar with the conference landscape that Notre Dame finds it in would eventually find their way to the possibility. But, I don't recall having seen it in print before my post. So, that's something.
NBC Sports mentions the possibility of an all-Catholic non-football conference that would allow Notre Dame to maintain it's independence in football.
And that article stemmed from a report in the Boston Globe citing an unnamed source.
That article also triggered an exhaustive discussion of this issue at NDNation.
As things heat up this summer with meetings of the BCS and the member conferences, more and more I'm getting the sense that we are setting up for some real moving and shaking on conference realignment.
Also, with the possibility of a new all-Catholic basketball conference, what would you suggest as a name (assuming that they aren't able to keep the Big East). My personal favorite? The Universal Conference.
